  • Abstract
Fiber Reinforced Polymer or Plastic (FRP) materials have been used widely in civil engineering over the last 10 years or so. FRP materials have poor fire resistance, however. We analyzed recent research on the fire resistance (high temperature) behaviour of FRP materials, including thermal properties, mechanical properties (strength and stiffness), bonding properties at elevated temperatures, and the burning properties of FRP materials (ignition and flame spread, smoke generation and toxicity). We conclude with the existing problems in the fire behavior of FRP materials and propose suggestions for further research.
